Software Engineering Lead

Role overview

Engineering leadership and culture

• Manage direct reports and act as an independent escalation point.
• Build an inclusive and psychologically safe culture and resolve conflict constructively.
• Handle absence management, performance management, disciplinaries, complaints, and related HR duties.
• Participate in hiring, interviews, onboarding, training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development.

Product and delivery excellence

• Own delivery predictability, throughput, quality, and customer value using engineering metrics.
• Drive planning, capacity, dependency management, delivery plans, schedules, risks, and mitigations.
• Balance product growth with technical enablement, technical debt, reliability, and security.
• Represent engineering in roadmap prioritization and discovery and clarify testable requirements.
• Manage software development escalations, stakeholder requirements, specifications, and compliance.

Technical excellence and innovation

• Align with technical leads and architecture functions on standards, patterns, and reuse.
• Guide platform architecture, cross-functional requirements, and complex data models.
• Ensure API and integration designs are reliable, fault tolerant, secure, observable, versioned, and documented.
• Maintain technical documentation, modernize the technical estate, and manage technical debt.
• Provide technical assurance through design reviews, code quality, architectural alignment, and security testing.

Requirements

• Hands-on software engineering expertise with responsibility for technical direction and engineering outcomes.
• Experience leading and managing a cross-functional engineering team and direct reports.
• Ability to oversee architecture, software quality, reliability, security, compliance, cost, and delivery speed.
• Ability to plan roadmaps, delivery schedules, capacity, dependencies, risks, and mitigations.
• Ability to evaluate technical feasibility and translate product requirements into software designs.
• Ability to provide technical assurance through design reviews, code quality practices, and architectural alignment.
• Ability to support hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and professional development.
