About the Role
Proximal builds research systems that identify model capabilities, create teaching tasks, measure improvement, and continuously produce data for frontier models.
The Software Engineer will build core infrastructure and systems for a data creation engine, including reliable automations and agent execution at scale.
What You Will Do
- Build infrastructure to run hundreds of thousands of concurrent agents reliably for more than 24 hours.
- Build ephemeral, production-like multi-node software systems as training environments.
- Create mechanisms for snapshotting and restoring training-environment progress.
- Build training infrastructure for specialized internal models.
- Build automated QA systems to adversarially evaluate tasks and agent outputs.
- Build systems to continuously index all code on the internet.
What We Look For
- Experience designing and building systems from scratch where correctness, reliability, and performance mattered at scale.
- Comfort working in research-heavy environments with strong experimental instincts.
- Ability to solve ambiguous technical problems and deliver concrete engineering outcomes.
- Strong intuition for building reliable automations and agentic systems.
