Role Overview
This is a staff-level infrastructure generalist role that begins as an individual contributor position.
The engineer will set infrastructure direction and build systems supporting search, data processing, asynchronous execution, and cloud architecture.
The role owns foundations for storing, indexing, retrieving, and moving billions of pieces of content.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction across databases, search, data processing, asynchronous execution, and cloud architecture.
- Redesign search and retrieval for fast investigation at billions-of-items scale.
- Evolve relational databases through sharding, partitioning, indexing, caching, and migrations.
- Build asynchronous systems, high-volume data infrastructure, shared services, and cloud foundations.
- Operate production systems, automate recurring work, and guide architecture and build-versus-buy decisions.
- Write technical proposals and guide engineers through complex systems decisions.
Requirements
- Staff-scope experience setting technical direction across team boundaries and leading complex projects through adoption.
- Track record building distributed infrastructure systems used by engineers or products.
- Experience scaling production systems through major increases in data volume, traffic, or workload complexity.
- Deep relational database architecture knowledge, including indexing, partitioning, sharding, caching, and migration.
- Experience with high-throughput asynchronous systems and large-scale search and retrieval.
- Experience with large-volume ingestion, streaming, batch processing, and underlying cloud infrastructure.
Office
- For employees in New York, Outtake is an in-person team working five days per week from a Brooklyn waterfront office, with flexibility as needed.
