About the Job

Google software engineers develop technologies operating at massive scale across distributed computing, system design, networking, storage, security, and related areas.

The role is with Google Cloud Storage, a planet-scale object storage service managing exabytes of data, trillions of objects, and millions of queries per second.

Storage Transfer Service transfers large datasets from sources such as S3, Google Cloud Storage, and HTTP to Google Cloud Storage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of software development experience in an industry setting, or 1 year with an advanced degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • Experience with C++, Go, or Java.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience building infrastructure components in a distributed environment.
  • Understanding of cloud environments and storage technologies or systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver projects independently while collaborating with stakeholders and making decisions for timely delivery.
  • Write concise technical design documents for features and proposed implementations.
  • Build automated benchmarking for Google Cloud Storage client performance and analyze test results.
  • Help implement code changes that address performance bottlenecks.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards for code quality.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code for features and performance improvements.
