Software Engineer III, AI/ML, Search Ecosystems

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain highly scalable software systems and backend infrastructure designed to operate on top of Large Language Models for information retrieval.
• Design, implement, and continuously iterate on systems to retrieve high-value, rights-protected content. This includes defining quality signals, extracting data, and building evaluation models.
• Partner closely with engineers, product managers, and research teams across Google (such as NotebookLM, Play Books, Core Data, and Search) to seamlessly integrate premium knowledge into high-visibility Generative Artificial Intelligence surfaces.
• Grow in a changing, rapidly growing environment, taking the initiative to establish clear technical directions and deliver results from the ground up for a new organizational effort.
• Uphold standards for code quality, system reliability, engineering best practices, and comprehensive technical documentation across the team.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. - 2 years of experience with software development in C++ and Java. - Experience in domains related to information retrieval, search infrastructure, ranking systems, data quality, or signal extraction for content evaluation. - Experience with large-scale data analysis, building data pipelines (e.g., Flume), and applying statistical methods to solve problems. Preferred qualifications: - Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields. - 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms. - Experience developing accessible technologies.
