Software Development Manager

Role overview

Delivery leadership

• Lead 3 to 5 internal development squads and third-party developer squads working under agreed statements of work.
• Manage squad performance through team and vendor delivery leads.
• Set operating rhythms for planning, execution reviews, release readiness, reporting, and escalation management.
• Maintain visibility into delivery status, risks, blockers, release readiness, and third-party progress.

Implementation and quality

• Convert approved demand into delivery plans with clear scope, dependencies, capacity considerations, and support expectations.
• Oversee work from technical discovery through build, release, adoption, and transition into support.
• Standardize requirements, estimation, solution design, testing, documentation, operational readiness, and release acceptance.
• Define delivery metrics covering throughput, cycle time, defects, rework, predictability, support load, and release reliability.

Platforms and standards

• Ensure delivery aligns with approved platform, architecture, data, security, and engineering standards.
• Set expectations for Jira, GitHub or Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Azure services, Power Platform, and Microsoft Fabric.
• Partner with Architecture and Platform leads on consistent design patterns for workflow, automation, and internal software.

Vendor and stakeholder management

• Help shape third-party statements of work covering scope, deliverables, acceptance expectations, and support responsibilities.
• Manage third-party delivery risks, blockers, quality expectations, and commitments.
• Communicate delivery status, risks, constraints, and decision points to technical and business audiences.

Essential qualifications

• Experience managing multiple software delivery squads through team leads, including internal and third-party teams.
• Strong software development background with practical experience in Python or Node.js.
• Hands-on experience across requirements, design, development, testing, release management, and operational support.
• Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Pipelines, Microsoft Azure, and Jira.
• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, Power Automate, Power Apps, and Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience with build-versus-buy analysis and third-party delivery planning.

Preferred qualifications

• Enterprise-scale workflow or automation delivery experience is preferred.
• Experience in globally distributed delivery environments is preferred.
• Exposure to enterprise architecture standards and low-code and custom delivery models is preferred.

Compensation

• The stated salary range is CAD 120,000 to CAD 160,000.
• Base salary depends on skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
