Role overview
Clio is seeking a Software Development Manager to join its Engineering team.
The role combines people leadership, technical contribution, team execution, and development of solid technical solutions for large-scale SaaS products.
Location and work model
- The role is open to candidates based in Vancouver.
- The role requires presence in the Burnaby hub office twice per week on designated Anchor Days.
- Clio describes its local work environment as hybrid, with office attendance expected at least twice weekly.
Core responsibilities
- Collaborate with product and design leaders to understand business challenges, identify opportunities, and create a team roadmap.
- Work with the team to design technical solutions.
- Give feedback on code reviews, architecture documents, and technical decisions.
- Contribute to projects through code reviews or shipping code.
- Meet with direct reports to support career growth and development.
- Participate in hiring and review code from team members and other developers.
Leadership expectations
- Lead with context, set the pace, and own outcomes while giving the team clarity, authority to decide, and accountability to deliver.
- Hire, coach, develop, and retain engineering talent.
- Build a safe and productive environment for engineers.
- Adapt roadmaps and processes as priorities and technologies change.
Candidate qualifications
- Demonstrated people leadership in software development, particularly with large-scale SaaS products.
- Strong hands-on software development background and broad technical knowledge.
- Ability to explain successful projects and lessons learned from failed projects.
- Ability to provide and receive honest, actionable feedback.
- Growth mindset toward process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.
Bonus qualifications
- Experience with CRM products at scale is a bonus.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails or Python is a bonus.
Compensation and benefits
- The expected salary range is $180,500–$270,700 CAD, with placement informed by geographic region, experience, and skillset.
- Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible time off, counseling support, RRSP matching, and RESP contributions.
