Role Overview

Software Development Engineer II role on Amazon's Worldwide Deals and Promotions team in Vancouver.

The team builds systems supporting deals, discounts, promotions, and customer purchase experiences globally.

The role involves complex problem solving and opportunities to mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy scalable, low-latency services for deals and promotions.
  • Translate customer and business requirements into robust technical solutions with product managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and improve service performance, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Set standards for code quality, maintainability, and development practices through implementation and code reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and identify ways to evolve the promotions platform.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • At least 2 years of non-internship experience designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Additional Qualifications

  • Expertise designing and building high-performance, scalable services and APIs.
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Use of generative AI tools and ability to identify opportunities to improve products, workflows, or customer experiences.

Compensation

  • The base salary range is CAD 114,800 to CAD 191,800 annually for Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • Total compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units.
