About the role
The role supports Tesco's Price Service, a mission-critical HTTP API powering pricing and promotions across stores, websites, and other channels.
The internet-facing API runs in stores and the cloud and is designed for high availability, performance, and future scale.
The work involves complex distributed-systems challenges and frequent engineering collaboration.
Technology environment
- The stack includes Java, Vert.x, RxJava, Groovy, Couchbase, and Kafka.
- Infrastructure is built with Terraform and runs on Kubernetes in Azure.
- GitHub Actions pipelines support delivery.
- The team uses Agile practices, adapting Kanban and other methodologies to its needs.
- Pair programming is common and code is reviewed through GitHub.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end systems using JVM and Java expertise.
- Translate product requirements into maintainable code.
- Write test-driven features and follow TDD and BDD cycles.
- Apply SOLID principles and cohesive design to build scalable software.
- Design, build, deploy, and maintain infrastructure.
- Collaborate with product stakeholders to refine features.
