Software Development Engineer III (Java Backend)

YOUR ROLE AT SIXT

• You will build reliable, consumer-facing backend software in Java that powers the B2B Sales platform, directly supporting sales performance and revenue management at scale
• You will design and own end-to-end distributed systems on the cloud, balancing scalability, resilience, and engineering craft across our microservices ecosystem
• You will develop shared libraries and internal tooling that raise the delivery velocity of the entire B2B Sales engineering team
• You will work on event-driven architectures, keeping yourself ahead of emerging technologies to build solutions that grow with SIXT's enterprise ambitions
• You will champion AI-assisted development as a core part of your engineering culture — integrating tools such as Cursor, and Claude into daily workflows while guiding the team on where human expertise must lead

YOUR SKILLS MATTER

• You hold a B.Tech, B.E., or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
• You bring 7–9 years of hands-on experience in sophisticated engineering environments — including cloud-native application development, scalability problem-solving, and event-driven system design, ideally within a start-up or scale-up setting
• You have strong, production-proven experience with Java and Spring Boot (must-have) and are confident navigating a modern microservices landscape end to end
• You have designed or operated distributed systems and microservices architectures, with a clear understanding of the trade-offs that come with operating at scale
• You have a solid grasp of event-driven patterns, pub-sub models, and message brokers such as Apache Kafka
• You actively use AI coding assistants — such as Cursor, Claude— to accelerate your work, while confidently recognising their limitations and knowing when engineering judgment must take precedence
