Backend Engineering Team

The Backend Engineering team builds high-scale, fault-tolerant distributed systems serving millions of users daily.

The team owns domains including inventory, pricing, booking, payments, and customer and partner platforms.

Systems emphasize high availability, low latency, zero-downtime operation, CI/CD, automation, and observability.

The Opportunity

  • Own the design and reliability of a critical service or domain from architecture through production.
  • Identify problems proactively, make independent technical trade-offs, and raise the technical bar for the immediate team.
  • Design, build, and own scalable distributed systems and microservices.
  • Lead complex features and technical initiatives end-to-end and drive system and API design practices.
  • Own service scalability, performance, reliability, and fault tolerance, including high-throughput and low-latency optimization.
  • Collaborate with adjacent teams and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical priorities.
  • Mentor engineers, handle production issues, drive RCAs, and lead follow-through improvements.

Technical Requirements

  • 8–12 years of backend engineering experience.
  • Strong experience building and owning distributed systems at scale.
  • Expertise in at least one of Java, Kotlin, Scala, or Go.
  • Strong knowledge of microservices, REST APIs, system design, SQL or NoSQL databases, performance, scalability, and concurrency.
  • Strong coding and problem-solving ability.

Leadership Qualifications

  • Ownership beyond assigned tasks, including proactively driving initiatives within a domain.
  • Comfort making decisions under ambiguity and owning technical and business consequences.
  • Ability to communicate trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated impact mentoring or growing engineers with concrete outcomes.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with large-scale consumer or marketplace platforms.
  • Exposure to Kafka or RabbitMQ and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, or Aerospike.
  • Familiarity with AWS or GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum environments.
