Role Overview

Role Description
The Ship Captain has overall command of the vessel and responsibility for safe navigation, operation, security, and management.
The role protects passengers, crew, cargo, the vessel, and the marine environment while ensuring compliance with maritime laws, conventions, regulations, and company policies.
The Captain coordinates with owners, operators, marine superintendents, crew, port authorities, pilots, agents, and other maritime stakeholders.
Command and Navigation
- Assume command and responsibility for safe vessel operation and navigation.
- Plan, review, and execute voyages in line with approved voyage plans, weather conditions, navigational requirements, and operational objectives.
- Use radar, ECDIS, GPS, AIS, electronic charts, visual navigation, and other approved navigation systems.
- Monitor weather, sea conditions, tides, currents, traffic, hazards, and other vessel-safety factors.
- Maintain bridge procedures, watchkeeping standards, and navigational protocols.
Crew and Port Operations
- Supervise deck officers, engineers, ratings, and other crew members.
