Located in the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, Unit 4 West Women’s Operating Room and Recovery Room provides surgical services for both gynecology and obstetrics, including elective and emergency procedures. The department functions as one integrated Women’s Operating Room, supporting 7 operating theatres, including 5 gynecology theatres and 2 obstetrical theatres, as well as a 5-bay pre-operative holding area and an 8-bay Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU). The Service Worker II plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient surgical care across the Women’s OR and PACU. This position extends beyond routine cleaning and stocking. Service Worker IIs are active members of the perioperative team and work alongside nurses, ORTs, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other team members to ensure theatres and patient care areas are clean, stocked, organized, and ready for use. Responsibilities include between-case and terminal cleaning of all 7 operating theatres, including obstetrical theatres, maintaining cleanliness of supporting clinical areas, restocking supplies, preparing equipment, supporting room turnovers, and helping maintain theatre readiness for elective and emergency cases. The role also includes patient portering and assistance with movement of equipment and supplies throughout the department. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, flexibility, professionalism, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment. The incumbent must be comfortable adapting to changing surgical priorities and supporting urgent operational needs as they arise. As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Ability to develop a working knowledge of common surgical procedures to anticipate equipment and setup needs. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Physically able to perform the demands of the role, including: Portering and transferring patients. Moving, lifting, pushing, and pulling equipment and supplies. Cleaning and restocking all 7 Women’s OR theatres and support areas. Frequent bending, walking, and lifting 40–50lbs or more. Completed Between Case Cleaning Course (or equivalent certification). Previous experience with operating room turnover, environmental cleaning, and theatre readiness. Experience in gynecology, obstetrics, or women’s health is an asset. Knowledge of infection prevention, aseptic practices, and safe handling of biohazardous materials.
