Role Overview
Own the design function for a Generative AI team building web and mobile products with AI-assisted development.
The role combines hands-on product design with creating a reusable design system that engineers can build from directly.
Success is measured by how much quality design work happens without the designer needing to be present for every decision.
Product Design Across Web and Mobile
- Design user flows, screens, states, and interactions for Generative AI products shipping to internal and external users.
- Design complete experiences covering empty, loading, error, edge-case, first-run, and repeat-use states.
- Establish the visual language for typography, color, spacing, layout, iconography, and motion.
- Prototype when it helps decisions happen faster.
Design System and Engineering Handoff
- Identify patterns that should become tokens, components, documented patterns, or deliberate one-offs.
- Build and maintain the system in Figma using variables, component properties, auto layout, and libraries.
- Provide exported design tokens, generated CSS or theme configuration, and written usage rules with examples.
- Version the system, document changes, and retire unused elements as products evolve.
Generative AI Product Design
- Design patterns for chat, conversational surfaces, streaming output, visible agent steps, tool calls, citations, sources, and human review.
- Design for latency, partial answers, model errors, and controls that let users correct or stop an agent.
- Use AI tooling in Figma, Claude Design, and the handoff layer to move from design decisions to usable artifacts quickly.
- Package the system as repository-level rules and skills that coding agents load by default.
Enablement and Adoption
- Work alongside engineers as the system is adopted and review shipped work against the intended designs.
- Fix the system when the system was the source of a product issue.
- Keep the design process non-blocking so teams do not have to wait for the designer to build a screen.
Core Requirements
- Eight or more years of UI/UX or product design experience with ownership of design decisions.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills, with decisions explained in terms of user impact rather than taste.
- Experience turning design work into reusable tokens, components, patterns, or documented libraries used by others.
- Comfort designing for both web and mobile platforms.
- Strong Figma skills, including variables, component properties, auto layout, and libraries.
- Ability to produce engineering-ready artifacts and work in the token and CSS layers.
- Deliberate use of AI tools in design work, including judgment about when to accept or override their output.
- A portfolio or walkthrough of design work; confidential or unlaunched work is acceptable.
Strong Assets
- Experience designing for AI or agentic products.
- Familiarity with design-token pipelines such as Style Dictionary or the W3C design tokens format.
- Front-end ability beyond the token layer, such as building components.
- Accessibility practice, including keyboard behavior, focus behavior, and screen-reader semantics.
- Experience with right-to-left and bilingual interfaces, particularly Arabic and English.
- Experience with motion design, dense or data-heavy interfaces, data visualization, usability testing, or research.
Why This Role
Own the visual and experience direction for the team's products and determine what the design system becomes.
Design decisions become reusable tokens and components that shape every product the team ships.
Work on interaction patterns for agentic products and use AI tooling as part of the daily design craft.
Work closely with engineers, see what ships, and improve the system when it is wrong.
