Role Overview

  • The Senior Technical Engineer is a site based technical role within the Technical Office department, responsible for producing, reviewing, and governing all Structural shop drawings, technical submittals, RFIs, CVIs, and Structural BIM models.

BIM Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with BIM Manager/BIM Coordinator to ensure Structural technical requirements are reflected in BIM workflow.
  • Provide Structural technical input to support BIM coordination, model development, clash review, and construction stage coordination.
  • Review BIM generated outputs from a Structural and constructability perspective.
  • Ensure Structural shop drawings extracted from BIM models are technically correct and coordinated with site requirements.
  • Support resolution of coordination issues identified through BIM reviews.
  • Attend BIM coordination meetings when Structural decisions are required.
  • Ensure Structural team comments are communicated to BIM team.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and specialist suppliers for BIM related inputs.
  • Support BIM Manager in validating Structural deliverables.
  • Use BIM outputs as coordination and decision support tool.
  • Escalate critical Structural coordination risks to Technical Office Manager and BIM Manager.

Engineering Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Structural technical office team.
  • Distribute tasks, monitor team productivity, and ensure deliverables are submitted on schedule.
  • Review Structural technical outputs before submission.
  • Act as first escalation point for Structural technical issues.
  • Prepare deliverable trackers, submission logs, RFI logs, drawing registers, and progress reports.
  • Support Technical Office Manager in planning and resource allocation.
  • Ensure Structural deliverables align with project programme and construction sequence.
  • Mentor Senior Structural and Structural team members.

Coordination

  • Lead Structural coordination meetings with consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Coordinate with architectural and MEP teams to resolve interdisciplinary conflicts.
  • Coordinate with QS/commercial team for quantity verification and variation assessment.
  • Coordinate with planning team to align deliverables with construction priorities.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC team for approved drawings and materials.
  • Coordinate with authority engineers for Structural approvals.
  • Ensure all Structural technical decisions are documented and communicated.

RFIs, CVIs, Variations & Technical Clarifications

  • Lead preparation and review of Structural RFIs, CVIs, technical queries, and clarification sketches.
  • Ensure RFIs are technically clear and contractually traceable.
  • Follow up with consultants for timely responses.
  • Assess consultant replies and update shop drawings, BIM models, and procurement documents.
  • Support commercial/QS team in identifying and substantiating variations.
  • Review drawing changes and determine technical, cost, and time impact.
  • Maintain proper records of RFIs, CVIs, drawing revisions, and approvals.

CDE Compliance

  • Ensure all Structural submissions are prepared, reviewed, and issued through approved CDE (Asite, Aconex, Autodesk Construction Cloud, etc.).
  • Ensure engineering documents are exchanged through approved workflows.
  • Maintain drawing registers, revision logs, submission trackers, and approval status logs.
  • Ensure superseded drawings are controlled to avoid outdated information.
  • Enforce proper naming conventions, revision control, and approval workflows.

Site Technical Support

  • Provide technical support to site engineers and construction teams.
  • Resolve Structural site issues related to drawings and coordination.
  • Conduct site visits to verify technical compliance.
  • Assist in resolving NCRs, site observations, and consultant comments.
  • Ensure latest approved drawings are available to site team.
  • Monitor Structural work progress and highlight risks.
