Role overview

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to develop leading-edge electronics for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems.

The role covers full-stack hardware development from concept through detailed design, analysis, layout, build, test, and delivery.

The successful candidate will present engineering design reviews to customers and the executive team.

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end design of complex electronics modules and systems through schematic, layout, test, and production.
  • Lead hardware engineering teams developing products with multiple electronics modules.
  • Provide hardware development subject matter expertise across the company.
  • Develop hardware architectures and hardware requirements for complex systems.
  • Design complex schematics and perform detailed PCB layout in Altium Designer.
  • Complete worst-case circuit, signal integrity, and power integrity analyses.
  • Develop bring-up and design verification plans and perform validation testing.
  • Release modules and assemblies to production with Manufacturing and Test Engineering.
  • Mentor engineers and use software and mechanical knowledge to streamline hardware development.

Job requirements and minimum qualifications

  • BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least 12 years of industry or university research experience in board-level electronics design, analysis, and test.
  • Direct experience with high-reliability electronics and small systems for space or defense applications.
  • Experience with part derating, worst-case analysis, thermal constraints, architecture, trade studies, part selection, and detailed design.
  • Multiple hardware product deliveries through production and deployment.
  • Expertise in PCB layout and manufacturing, including HDI stackup design and IPC standards.
  • Expertise with signal integrity or power integrity simulation tools such as Ansys SIwave, ADS SIPro, or Mentor HyperLynx.
  • Expert-level proficiency in electronics design tools such as Altium.
  • Extensive laboratory experience with bring-up and verification of new hardware.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Preferred experience

  • Experience leading teams of hardware engineers developing multi-module assemblies, including architecture, requirements, and interconnects.
  • Experience designing for space radiation environments.
