Opportunity Overview
A leading global hedge fund is expanding its Data Production Operations capability in Abu Dhabi.

Compensation and Location
- Total compensation is stated as $200,000–$400,000; no compensation cadence is specified.
- The role is located in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with relocation and visa support.
What You Will Do
- Take senior ownership of a large-scale SQL Server production environment supporting business-critical applications.
- Provide expert SQL Server administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, HA/DR, and disaster recovery support.
- Lead complex production incidents and work with application, infrastructure, and engineering teams.
- Optimise queries, execution plans, indexing, blocking, deadlocks, and database performance.
- Support Always On Availability Groups, replication, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Identify opportunities for automation, monitoring, standardisation, and operational improvement.
- Provide database solutions by working with application and engineering teams to understand requirements.
- Contribute to database migration and modernisation programmes involving newer data technologies.
- Provide resilient 24/7 production coverage with global colleagues across the US, UK, and UAE.
What They Are Looking For
- At least 7 years of SQL Server DBA or Database Administrator experience.
- Financial services experience is identified as essential in the posting header, while later described as highly desirable.
- Significant hands-on Microsoft SQL Server experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimisation expertise.
- Experience with Always On Availability Groups, HA/DR, replication, backup, and recovery.
- Experience supporting 24/7 production environments and handling critical incidents.
- Experience supporting applications where database availability and performance have direct business impact.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across development, application, infrastructure, and technology teams.
- A mindset focused on automation, continuous improvement, and engineering quality.
Relevant Additional Experience
- Exposure to Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, modern data warehouses, or cloud data platforms is advantageous.
- Experience with large-scale database migration, cloud migration, or data platform modernisation is particularly relevant.
