Role Overview

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Specialist – Radioactive Waste & Decommissioning to support the development, implementation, and oversight of the UAE’s regulatory framework for radioactive waste management and decommissioning activities.

The role requires strong regulatory expertise combined with hands-on inspection and technical assessment experience within nuclear and radiological facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and update regulatory requirements, guidance, and technical documents related to radioactive waste management and decommissioning.

Review and assess radioactive waste management programs and disposal practices within regulated facilities.

Conduct and lead regulatory inspections and technical assessments.

Evaluate radiation doses, risks, and compliance with radiation protection principles, including ALARA.

Support emergency preparedness and response activities related to radioactive materials.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge sharing within the department.

Engage with national stakeholders, international organizations, and foreign regulatory authorities.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university (Master’s degree preferred).

Minimum of 15 years of senior-level, demonstrated expertise in radioactive waste management and decommissioning, with strong regulatory experience, including development of regulatory requirements and guidance, combined with hands-on experience in field inspections and technical assessments within nuclear or radiological facilities.

Proven experience in radiation protection.

Strong analytical, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience with international regulatory bodies or IAEA-related activities is an advantage.
