About Relay and Voyager

Relay builds digital banking products that help self-made business owners manage money and build resilient businesses.

Voyager develops technology foundations for AI and insights, supports product teams, and explores emerging technologies through rapid technical spikes.

Role Overview

Join Voyager as a Senior Software Engineer working across AI infrastructure, exploratory research, developer enablement, and technical partnership.

The role spans hardening shared infrastructure and prototyping technologies that may not yet exist in production.

What You Will Do

  • Build and deploy secure, reusable LLM systems and own them from design through deployment and monitoring.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts that evaluate emerging technologies and recommend whether and how Relay should adopt them.
  • Provide tooling, patterns, and guidance that help teams ship AI workflows quickly and safely.
  • Partner with product teams on technical decisions as the AI expert in the room.
  • Identify improvements and influence technical direction and long-term strategy.

Who You Are

  • Have 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience.
  • Have led significant components or features with minimal oversight.
  • Can move between exploratory spikes and production-ready systems.
  • Have strong judgment about emerging technology and its practical usefulness.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive improvements to code quality, performance, and development processes.
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity, change, ownership, collaboration, and feedback.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Startup or high-growth technology company experience.
  • Hands-on LLM experience with self-hosting or serving open models, retrieval, evaluation, or agentic workflows.
  • Experience building platforms or shared services for engineering teams.
  • Experience with JavaScript, AWS services, and continuous deployment pipelines.

Technology Stack

  • Front end: React, TypeScript, and React Native.
  • Back end: Node.js, TypeScript, Terraform, and AWS services including DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, SES, Elasticsearch, and ECS.
  • Tools include Cursor, Claude, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Jira, and Metabase.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range is $144,000 CAD to $176,000 CAD.
  • The typical starting salary for candidates fully ready for the defined scope is $160,000 CAD.

Interview Process

  • The process includes Talent, Engineering Manager, live coding, system design, and leadership interview stages.
  • Interviews are conducted through Google Meet, with one in-person leadership interview and a take-home system design challenge.
