About the Role
AssemblyAI is hiring a Software Engineer to turn AI research into products used by customers every day.
The role sits between research and Applied teams, taking model capabilities from proof of concept to robust, documented APIs serving production traffic at scale.
What You Will Do
- Design and ship customer-facing APIs for new model capabilities from prototype through launch and iteration.
- Scale inference infrastructure to support more than one million API users.
- Partner with researchers to productionize techniques from notebooks or proofs of concept.
- Work with customers and Applied teams to inform product design and research direction.
- Contribute to backend services, inference infrastructure, SDKs, and internal tooling.
What You Will Need
- Strong backend engineering experience with machine learning infrastructure and/or customer-facing production APIs.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity across research and product timelines.
- Genuine curiosity about AI and machine learning, without requiring a research background.
- Strong collaboration skills with researchers, applied engineers, and customers.
