Join the M&S Foods Product team as a Senior Software Engineer focused on food-related data platforms.
The team supports supplier systems, pricing and promotions, product lifecycle and master data, and critical supply chain data flows.
The role provides technical expertise across scalable services, platform architecture, delivery, and production operations.
Key accountabilities
- Build scalable Java and Micronaut data services, high-performance pipelines, and APIs integrated with Kafka.
- Own features from design and development through testing, deployment, and production support.
- Shape platform architecture through data contracts, schemas, event models, and technical decisions.
- Promote engineering quality through testing, code reviews, pair programming, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Design monitoring and alerting and participate in support activities for critical supply chain and pricing data.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Commercial stakeholders.
- Coach colleagues and provide technical guidance and feedback.
Required experience
- Significant experience building and scaling data-intensive distributed systems for large datasets or mission-critical processes.
- Strong Java and JVM-based backend development experience, with Micronaut experience desirable.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, engineering automation, GitHub Actions, and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably Azure, and technologies including Kafka, SFTP, relational databases, MongoDB, and SaaS integrations.
- Experience designing data models, data contracts, schema evolution strategies, domain-driven designs, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Ability to balance strategic architecture with pragmatic delivery and maintain high standards for security and operational excellence.
- Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude.
- Understanding of frontend technologies such as React and Angular for effective collaboration.
Desirable experience
- Retail, supply chain, product lifecycle, pricing, or master data platform experience is desirable.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and modern cloud-native data platforms is desirable.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to engineering communities, standards, and best practices is desirable.
Technology stack
- Backend technologies include Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Micronaut.
- Frontend technologies include React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Angular.
- Cloud and infrastructure technologies include Azure Cloud and Kubernetes.
- Observability includes Dynatrace.
- Databases include SQL Server and MongoDB.
- Caching and performance technologies include Ignite and Redis.
