Team and role
The OS UI/SDK team develops customer-focused features spanning content discovery, search, Roku Pay, subscriptions, embedded software, and firmware.
The Senior Software Engineer will build platform experiences including screensavers, static and dynamic wallpapers, trivia, featured experiences, and AI-driven content initiatives.
The role involves cross-functional collaboration and ownership from prototype development through production delivery.
Core responsibilities
- Design and develop new Roku platform experiences and build proof-of-concept prototypes to validate ideas rapidly.
- Collaborate with UI/UX design, backend engineering, product management, and business leadership to implement user experiences.
- Adapt prototypes into production-ready, scalable solutions and resolve technical issues.
- Contribute to API design and deliver end-to-end solutions across cloud development, content management, UI, and cloud backend integration.
Technical experience
- Extensive software engineering experience and embedded-environment experience are expected.
- Relevant scripting or application technologies include JavaScript, TypeScript, React Native, Python, BrightScript, or related technologies.
- Experience with AI, machine learning, large language models, productionisation, cloud development, UI development, backend integration, API design, memory management, and multithreading is relevant.
- Consumer electronics experience in media, content, or advertising product development is a plus.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills are required.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field is listed.
- Roku values experience using AI agents, coding harnesses, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks to ship real work and verify outputs.
Hybrid working
- Roku generally works in the office Monday through Thursday, with Fridays generally flexible for remote work.
- Some employees may be required to attend five days per week depending on their role or assigned office location.
