Role Overview
The Core Platform team operates Reddit's core API platform, which supports listings, posts, comments, media, and other foundational data models.
The senior engineer will coach and mentor teammates while helping build and scale a media platform for Reddit's global user base.
Responsibilities
- Develop and design solutions for scaling Reddit and build API platform projects used across the organization.
- Build, deliver, and operate services handling hundreds of thousands of transactions per second with five or more nines of availability.
- Optimize Reddit's media experience and help create a roadmap for a growing engineering organization.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers on the direct team.
Required Qualifications
- Software development experience in Golang or Python.
- At least 5 years of experience with large-scale, mission-critical distributed systems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to partner effectively with teams in a fully remote environment.
- Familiarity with API platform service architectures.
- History of building clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Media delivery expertise from backend systems through the user, including media performance, scalability, and delivery optimization.
