Core Commerce Platform Role
The Core Commerce Platform organisation delivers omnichannel capabilities for purchase journeys, inventory availability, delivery promises, order processing, fulfilment, and post-purchase experiences.
The Senior Software Engineer will build and maintain production-grade backend services for inventory, promise, and order fulfilment capabilities.
The role works with Tech Leads, Product Owners, and Data Engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, low-latency services.
What You Will Do
- Design and operate secure, observable, resilient Java and Spring Boot services and low-latency APIs for inventory availability and order promising.
- Implement concurrency-control and consistency patterns to prevent overselling.
- Build event-driven inventory processing with Kafka or similar technologies.
- Integrate services with OMS, commerce, WMS, ERP, store, and fulfilment platforms.
- Own complex services from technical design through production.
- Write tested maintainable code, participate in reviews, and maintain technical documentation.
- Optimize performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Monitor production services, troubleshoot issues, and perform root-cause analysis.
- Lead component-level design and contribute to architecture decisions.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience building and operating scalable, high-availability, consumer-facing platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and modern microservices architectures.
- Strong understanding of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
- Deep understanding of caching strategies and experience with Redis or equivalent technologies.
- Strong understanding of concurrency, consistency, and transactional integrity patterns.
- Experience designing resilient event-driven solutions for peak trading and high-volume conditions.
- Experience designing graceful degradation and fallback mechanisms.
- Strong experience with observability, monitoring, distributed tracing, alerting, and operational excellence.
- Experience using coding agents, LLMs, or AI-assisted engineering tools to improve software delivery.
Desirable and Preferred Experience
- Understanding of inventory management, order promising, and delivery estimation models is highly desirable.
- Experience configuring, customizing, or extending OMS platform capabilities is preferred.
- Experience with Fluent Commerce or comparable OMS platforms such as IBM Sterling OMS, Manhattan Associates, Kibo, or Salesforce OMS is advantageous.
