Senior Software Engineer - Android

Frontier is a new team within Digital, created to explore a fundamentally different approach to product development.

We're building new greenfield digital experiences across web, iOS and Android while developing an AI-powered delivery model that changes how software is designed, built and operated. Rather than using AI as a coding assistant, we're rethinking the entire development lifecycle, combining human judgement with agentic systems to deliver high-quality customer experiences faster and more effectively.

Our mission is to build the next generation of digital experiences while proving a new model for software delivery, where engineers spend less time on repetitive implementation and more time on architecture, design decisions, quality and engineering judgement.

We're looking for engineers who are excited by both modern software engineering and the future of AI-powered product development.

This isn't a maintenance role. You'll establish the Android foundations, architecture and engineering practices for a new generation of digital experiences while helping shape a new approach to software delivery.

Own Android architecture and engineering standards

Build the foundations of our next-generation mobile platform

Design release, observability and deployment strategies

Embed accessibility and localisation by default

Translate design systems into mobile experiences

Partner with iOS and Web engineers on platform consistency

Contribute to AI-enabled engineering practices

Help define how software gets built in Frontier

Significant experience building and operating Android applications at scale

Strong Kotlin and Jetpack Compose expertise

Experience owning mobile architecture, release processes and engineering standards

Experience using modern AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows

A passion for building high-quality customer experiences and scalable platforms

Comfortable working in ambiguity, learning quickly and helping shape a brand-new way of building software
