Role overview
RTA is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve Fleet360, a fleet-management SaaS platform.
The role has high ownership and impact, including solution shaping, architectural decisions, cross-stack engineering, and raising engineering standards.
The company is developing an AI-first engineering organization and expects engineers to use AI as a force multiplier with sound engineering judgment.
Required experience
- 5-7+ years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of production software.
- Ability to work across browser, API, database, infrastructure, and third-party integrations.
- Production-scale Node.js and TypeScript experience building resilient APIs and services.
- Deep relational database expertise covering schemas, SQL, performance, integrity, and concurrency.
- Daily AI-assisted development experience using coding agents with evaluation, testing, and engineering judgment.
Preferred experience
- Vue.js is preferred, while strong React or Angular experience is considered transferable.
- Experience with browser architecture, distributed systems, messaging, caching, cloud-native applications, observability, CI/CD, and automated testing is advantageous.
- Experience building AI-powered capabilities with LLM APIs, retrieval, agents, embeddings, vector search, or structured outputs is advantageous.
- A Bachelor's degree, especially in computer science or a related field, is beneficial but not required.
Core responsibilities
- Own features from idea through production across front end, APIs, business logic, databases, integrations, and infrastructure.
- Build user experiences and scalable Node.js and TypeScript back-end systems.
- Use AI-assisted development daily and improve AI-enabled engineering workflows.
- Build AI-powered customer capabilities where they create meaningful value.
- Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and raise engineering standards.
- Resolve performance bottlenecks, production incidents, integration issues, security risks, and reliability problems.
- Collaborate with Product, QA, Support, and engineering teams on customer and business problems.
AI engineering practices
- Use coding agents for multi-file refactors, migrations, test coverage, debugging, documentation, and repetitive implementation.
- Review AI-generated work as rigorously as work from any contributor and test it before release.
- Evaluate whether AI features improve through measurable evaluation practices.
- Recognize when probabilistic models are inappropriate for compliance, warranty, or inventory information.
Success expectations
- By day 90, ship at least two end-to-end features, lead a production incident through resolution and postmortem, improve an AI-assisted workflow, and document an architectural opinion.
- By the end of year one, own a significant Fleet360 domain, ship an evaluated AI-powered capability, improve a tracked engineering metric, and influence how other engineers work.
Compensation and work location
- Total compensation is between $200,000 and $220,000 per year.
- This is a full-time, fully remote role open anywhere in the United States, with occasional travel to the Glendale, Arizona headquarters for team gatherings.
- The position is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay.
