Role overview

GitLab's Observability, Monitoring, and Integrations team supports the Monetization section.

The role builds telemetry, detection, and reconciliation tooling for CustomersDot, Salesforce, Zuora, and usage and billing pipelines.

The team is greenfield and will shape its operating rhythm, incident model, and quality standards.

The role is open at the Senior Software Engineer and Staff Software Engineer levels.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and operate metrics, logs, and traces across the Monetization stack with Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Implement automated detection for billing, data, and event anomalies and route alerts to feature teams.
  • Develop reconciliation and data integrity checks across usage and billing pipelines.
  • Define SLOs and SLIs, write runbooks, and participate in incident handling.
  • Explore AI and machine learning techniques to predict anomalies and accelerate resolution.
  • Review merge requests and provide feedback to Monetization engineers.
  • Collaborate with Product, Finance, Support, and other partners on reliable tooling.

What you'll bring

  • Professional experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Site reliability or observability engineering experience, including monitoring, alerting, SLOs, SLIs, runbooks, and incident handling.
  • Experience building anomaly detection, monitoring, or risk management tooling.
  • Experience with billing, financial, or other business-critical systems.
  • Experience owning projects from concept through production, including monitoring.
  • Clear, concise English communication about complex technical, architectural, and organizational problems.

Additional relevant experience

  • ClickHouse and change data capture or event streaming pipelines such as NATS JetStream are advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of Python for anomaly detection and data work is advantageous.
  • Experience with Zuora or Salesforce is advantageous.
