Senior QA Engineer

A Senior QA Engineer at Mercari India is responsible for building quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle. The role works closely with software engineers, product managers, designers and stakeholders to improve testability, identify risks early and ensure reliable product releases.

This role goes beyond test execution and automation. The engineer is expected to define test strategies, drive automation, influence engineering decisions, improve quality processes and adopt AI-powered practices to increase productivity and quality.

The goal is to deliver high-quality, scalable and customer-focused software while strengthening quality ownership across engineering teams.

AI assistance tools: Google Gemini / Cursor / ChatGPT / Claude Code

Have strong knowledge of QA methodologies, tools, processes, and quality engineering practices.

Have hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and tools.

Have strong mobile testing experience, including test design, implementation, optimization, and test management.

Have experience with functional and non-functional testing.

Can identify risks, navigate ambiguity, and drive initiatives with ownership.

Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across locations.

Have experience working in Agile development environments.

Are curious about new technologies, AI-powered engineering practices, and modern testing approaches.

Own quality assurance for Mercari products in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Help make quality an engineering team responsibility, not only a QA responsibility.

Build quality from the customer’s perspective by understanding issues, analyzing data, and improving processes.

Influence engineering decisions and improve quality from the earliest stages of development.

Scale automation and quality practices across mobile, web, API and backend systems.

Bring AI-native QA practices into real engineering workflows.

7–10 years of experience in QA, quality engineering, and automation.

Experience testing mobile applications, including test design, implementation, optimization, and test management.

Interest in adopting AI-powered engineering practices to improve quality and productivity.

Experience creating automated tests for at least one of the following platforms:

Android

iOS

Web

API / backend services

Hands-on experience in functional and non-functional testing.

Experience defining test strategies and identifying quality risks across the SDLC.

Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining automation frameworks.

Experience improving processes and resolving quality issues within a team.

Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

QA experience in Agile Scrum-based development.

Ability to work independently with ownership and minimal direction.

Experience in backend/API testing and automation.

Experience working in a CI/CD environment.

Familiarity with AI-powered testing platforms and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Experience in web, mobile app, or backend Automation

Experience in test tool selection, framework development, and automation optimization.

Experience with e-commerce platforms and services.

Experience in performance, reliability, security, scalability, resilience, or internationalization testing.

Experience using data analysis or visualization for QA decision-making.

Experience testing microservices-based systems.

Experience mentoring QA engineers or influencing quality practices across engineering teams.
