This role sits at the intersection of functional safety, on-board diagnostics (OBD), and aftersales engineering and ensures vehicles meet global regulatory requirements while delivering performance, reliability, and serviceability across the full lifecycle.

As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will lead system-level requirements, influence critical design decisions, and collaborate across engineering, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders to deliver compliant, high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead system-level functional safety, OBD, and aftersales requirements definition for propulsion systems
  • Own the functional safety lifecycle including safety concepts, safety cases, and assessments (ISO 26262)
  • Define and approve diagnostic strategies to ensure regulatory compliance (CARB, Euro 7, UN156)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Drive technical decision-making and mentor engineering team members
  • Ensure serviceability and diagnostic readiness across propulsion system components

Typical Deliverables

  • Technical safety concepts (TSC) and requirements Diagnostic strategies, DTC definitions, and diagnostic matrices
  • Safety analyses (HARA, FTA, FMEA, FMEDA)
  • Validation plans and compliance documentation
  • Technical policies and diagnostic specifications
  • Aftersales and serviceability documentation

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Min 8 years of experience in automotive systems, propulsion or embedded control systems
  • Knowledge of functional safety (ISO 26262), diagnostics, and OBD regulations (CARB CCR 1968.2, UN156, Euro 7)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced engineering degree
  • Experience in powertrain systems (ICE, hybrid, electrified)
  • Experience with diagnostic development, calibration tools, or validation (HiL)
  • Familiarity with Agile, ASPICE, or AUTOSAR
  • Experience working with suppliers and global regulatory processes
