Role overview
This Engineering Manager role leads Embedded, one of Production Engineering's two teams.
Embedded works across Canva's important production challenges, including critical data, safer software changes, observability, and overload resilience.
The role combines people leadership, technical direction, cross-team influence, and function building.
What you will do
- Lead a technically strong group of engineers working across multiple production challenges.
- Earn trust with engineering leaders and guide engineers through different technical and organizational environments.
- Define which problems Embedded takes on, how engagements work, and how impact is measured.
- Create psychological safety, provide direct coaching, and help senior engineers grow their influence.
- Build a scalable model, reusable engineering standards, and the next generation of technical leaders.
Experience
- Lead highly experienced software engineers and technical leads through complex or ambiguous work.
- Work in software environments where reliability, scalability, and production risk matter.
- Build authority through trust and influence teams beyond direct reporting lines.
