Senior Production Engineering Manager

Role overview

What you will do

• Lead work involving critical data protection, safer software changes, platform-rewrite reliability and overload resilience.
• Build trust with engineering leaders and help engineers navigate different technical and organisational contexts.
• Define which problems Embedded takes on, how engagements work and how impact is measured.
• Scale the Embedded model while preserving its technical bar, coaching quality and close partnerships.
• Turn engagement lessons into reusable engineering practices, patterns and capabilities.
• Set direction, create psychological safety, coach engineers and grow their organisational influence.
• Develop senior engineers and engagement leads who can coach others and lead complex work.

Experience

• Lead highly experienced software engineers and technical leads through complex or ambiguous work.
• Coach engineers who operate with significant autonomy.
• Work in software environments where reliability, scalability and production risk materially matter.
• Build trust and influence decisions where authority does not follow reporting lines.
• Lead significant technical initiatives across multiple teams from problem definition through delivery.
• Persuade teams to change how they build or operate software.
• Communicate complex technical trade-offs to senior stakeholders and support direct feedback.

Technical knowledge

• Strong computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading and data structures.
• Depth in Go, Python, Java, C++ or another relevant language for meaningful technical engagement.
• Strong working knowledge of system internals, networking and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Reason through ambiguous problems spanning multiple components, teams and constraints.
• Understand system design, architecture, engineering patterns, observability, capacity and failure modes.
• Experience working in large-scale or high-criticality production environments.

Nice to have

• Prior management experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering or a related function is advantageous.
• Large-scale storage, CDN, networking or distributed infrastructure experience is advantageous.
• Experience developing technical leaders or shaping an evolving technical function is advantageous.
