Senior Production Engineering Manager

Role overview

What you will do

• Lead work on data protection, safer software changes, platform reliability and observability, and resilience to overload.
• Build trust with engineering leaders and help engineers work effectively across technical and organizational boundaries.
• Define Embedded's engagement model, scope, success measures, and reusable engineering practices.
• Coach engineers, provide direct feedback, and create an environment where experienced engineers can do their best work.

Experience

• Lead highly experienced software engineers and technical leads through complex or ambiguous work.
• Work in software environments where reliability, scalability, and production risk genuinely mattered.
• Build trust from a standing start and influence teams without relying on reporting authority.
• Lead significant technical initiatives across multiple teams from problem understanding through delivery.
• Persuade teams to change how they build or operate software.
• Communicate complex technical trade-offs to senior stakeholders while supporting challenge, learning, and feedback.

Technical knowledge

• Strong grounding in computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, and data structures.
• Depth in languages such as Go, Python, Java, or C++ sufficient to engage with designs and implementation choices.
• Strong working knowledge of system internals, networking, and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Ability to reason through ambiguous systems problems involving multiple components, teams, and constraints.
• Familiarity with observability, capacity, failure modes, and production system operations.
• Experience in large-scale or high-criticality environments where reliability failures have meaningful consequences.

Nice to have

• Prior experience leading Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related function.
• Experience with large-scale storage, CDN, networking, or distributed infrastructure.
• A history of developing senior engineers and technical leads.
• Experience defining the identity, operating model, or scope of a technical function while it was taking shape.
