- Design and develop solutions with a Structural focus for integration of new sub systems/components into existing systems
- Support production of technical drawings and specifications for Engineering Changes on Victoria Class Submarines and other Naval/Marine platforms
- Conduct independent technical studies and assessments of marine structural elements
- Check design and drawing outputs from more junior designers for compliance
- Provide technical assistance and feedback to designers
- Provide marine constructive subject matter expertise into multidisciplinary teams
- Conduct onsite inspections/surveys as necessary
- Participate in development of in house processes and tools
- Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to deliver multi disciplinary designs
- Liaise with sub contractors to ensure design for manufacturability
Requirements
- Post secondary education in Engineering technology or equivalent experience
- Registration as AScT, CET, or PEng with applicable provincial association
- Eight (8) years of experience in structural drafting and design
- Experience with creation of Engineering Change Installation Packages
- Recent and significant experience with 2D and 3D CAD tools
- Proven ability to work independently on complex design tasks
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Eligibility for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance

Job Overview

In this role, you will:
- Design and develop solutions with a Structural focus for integration of new sub systems / components into existing systems.
- Support the production of technical drawings and specifications to support the implementation of Engineering Changes on board Victoria Class Submarines and other Naval/Marine platforms.
- Conduct independent technical studies and assessments of marine structural elements and analyze recommended changes.
- Check design and drawing outputs from more junior designers, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Provide technical assistance and feedback to designers.
- Provide marine constructive subject matter expertise into multidisciplinary teams.
- Conduct onsite inspections/surveys as necessary.
- Participate in the development of in house processes and tools.
- Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to deliver multi disciplinary designs.
- Work directly with stakeholders including project managers, configuration, engineering, and other departments.
- Liaise with sub contractors to ensure design for manufacturability.
The ideal candidate brings:
- Strong technical skills including post secondary education; degree, diploma and/or certificate in Engineering technology, or equivalent experience.
- Registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Professional Engineer (PEng).
- Eight (8) years of experience in structural drafting and design.
- Submarine specific knowledge considered an asset.
- Experience with creation of Engineering Change Installation Packages.
- Recent and significant experience working with 2D and 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks and AutoCAD a differentiating asset).
- Proven ability to work independently on complex design tasks.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
- Eligibility for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
