Job Summary

Join the Manufacturing Engineering team at GKN Aerospace’s Luton plant, supporting defence business lines and teams focused on jet canopies or helicopters.

Contribute to manufacturing process development and daily operational activities for aerospace ice protection systems, transparencies, canopies, and flight deck windows.

Occasional travel to equipment supplier locations may be required.

Working Hours

  • Core operational hours are 07:30–16:30 Monday to Thursday and 07:30–12:30 on Friday.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead production planning implementation from original concept through production.
  • Design manufacturing processes using the Zero Defect Manufacturing tool suite and APQP Core Tools.
  • Develop and optimize SOPs and process specifications.
  • Create engineering documentation and manage point-of-introduction activities.
  • Lead improvements to reduce scrap and rework.
  • Support Material Review Board reviews of process deviations and product faults.
  • Present technical information to senior internal and external audiences.
  • Identify technical problems and establish improved process controls.
  • Comply with environmental, health, safety, and energy procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or Aerospace.
  • Demonstrable manufacturing engineering experience, ideally in aerospace, automotive, or yellow goods.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt qualification.
  • Experience with APQP standards, including process flow diagrams, PFMEA, control plans, measurement system analysis, and process capability.
  • Experience with Fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys, and A3 or 8D problem-solving techniques.
  • The position requires UK National Security Vetting Security Check clearance.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience leading Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen activities such as 5S.
  • Experience with composite material lay-up processes.
  • Specification interpretation experience.

Workplace

  • The role is based at the Luton manufacturing site.
  • Occasional travel to equipment supplier locations may be required.
