Senior Manager of Software Engineering - Java, AWS

Role overview

Core responsibilities

• Direct, oversee, and coach entry-level to mid-level software engineers.
• Own decisions involving team resources, budget, tactical operations, and processes.
• Scale AI-assisted engineering and SDLC or TLM automation practices across multiple teams.
• Drive collaboration, issue mitigation, stakeholder communication, and execution of the book of work.
• Advise leadership on budget, technical approach, and operational improvements.

Engineering delivery

• Develop and enhance Java backend services for high-volume transaction processing.
• Build and operate scalable, reliable, and performant AWS solutions.
• Partner with senior engineers and architects on solution design and design reviews.
• Use approved AI-assisted coding tools to improve development, testing, and code quality.
• Promote code reviews, CI/CD, testing, observability, documentation, and secure coding.

Required qualifications

• Formal software engineering training or certification and at least 5 years of applied experience are required.
• At least 2 years of experience leading technologists is required.
• Experience leading teams, coaching engineers, hiring talent, and developing employees is required.
• Experience leading multi-team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering tools is required.
• Strong responsible-AI knowledge covering data sensitivity, security, resiliency, validation, and controls is required.
• Practical cloud-native AWS experience and Java backend development experience are required.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills are required.

Technical environment

• The technical environment includes Java, Spring, Spring Boot, microservices, SOAP or REST web services, SQL, Oracle, and design patterns.
• Additional technologies include Cloud Foundry, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Cassandra, NoSQL, and test-driven development.
• AWS examples include Aurora PostgreSQL, ECS or Fargate, EC2, Glue, and Airflow.

Preferred qualifications

• Financial services or connected commerce experience is a plus but is not required.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools such as Copilot and experience working at code level are preferred.
