Role Overview
Lead mechanical design for mobile robotics systems and peripheral structures at Unbox Robotics.
Support product development from proof of concept through production and sustaining phases.

Mechanical Design Responsibilities
- Perform calculations, component and material selection, CAD modeling, drawings, tolerance stack-up, and structural and multibody dynamics analysis.
- Own engineering specifications, development timelines, validation, and release of components, modules, and assemblies.
- Run design reviews, document decisions, close risks, and approve technical drawings and manufacturing release packages.
- Communicate design intent to vendors through 3D CAD, 2D drawings, GD&T, and engineering specifications.
- Drive quality, cost, manufacturability, and efficiency improvements across the product lifecycle.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for prototype, production, and field issues.
Leadership and Delivery
- Build, mentor, and develop mechanical design engineers and set technical direction for the team.
- Plan and allocate work across projects while balancing resources and priorities.
- Own budgets, costs, timelines, milestones, and delivery accountability across multiple projects.
- Identify patentable innovations and maintain invention disclosure and documentation practices.
Required Qualifications
- Strong capability in aggregate calculations, first-principles problem-solving, and engineering judgment.
- Expertise in CAD, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Hands-on experience with structures, mechanisms, tools, jigs, fixtures, solid mechanics, load cases, and failure mechanisms.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, material selection, structural analysis, multibody dynamics, and mass-production component development.
- Experience with FMEAs, design validation test plans, and production introduction.
- Ability to coordinate stakeholders, lead technical work, mentor engineers, and develop standard work practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electro-mechanical product development for robotics, industrial automation, automotive, or similar high-precision hardware.
- Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards for industrial machinery and automated systems.
- Composites experience, formal Design Thinking training, and awareness of emerging mechanical design technologies.
