CPA designation (required)

Payments industry experience — issuer or acquirer side is acceptable; enough exposure to be credible leading a team “in the weeds” on payments-specific accounting

Prior people leadership experience , even at small scale (e.g., led a 1–2 person team), big-bank, large-team, long-tenure backgrounds are not the fit we're looking for

A track record of process improvement — concrete examples of identifying inefficiencies and fixing them, not just executing existing process

Experience in a scrappy, high-growth environment — founder-led or VC/PE-backed companies preferred over large, stable organizations

Audit fundamentals strong enough to lead the audit relationship independently

Strongly Preferred

Modern accounting platform experience beyond QBO, NetSuite or Sage preferred; experience with Campfire or Rillet is a bonus

Demonstrated AI fluency — real usage of AI tools in an accounting/finance context (e.g., close automation, anomaly detection, reporting). Berkeley is AI-forward: every employee has a Claude Enterprise account and is expected to use it

Multi-currency / FX comfort — USD/CAD operations touch revaluation and reconciliation regularly

Exposure to Budgeting & FP&A – while this is an accounting role to begin with, the opportunity is there to own FP&A as well
