Job Overview
Citi’s Core Payment Systems team is seeking a Senior Lead Software Engineer to architect and drive modernization of global payment-processing platforms.
The role defines the engineering vision for resilient, high-throughput microservices supporting payment infrastructure across 160 countries and more than 140 currencies.
The position sits within Citi’s Treasury and Trade Solutions business.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full software development lifecycle for mission-critical payment applications from architecture through ongoing production ownership.
- Design high-throughput, low-latency microservices using Java 8+, Spring Boot, and cloud-native principles.
- Architect multi-region failover, zero-downtime release models, and blue-green or canary deployment pipelines for 99.99%+ availability.
- Apply Domain-Driven Design, event-driven architecture, Docker, and Kubernetes or OpenShift to modernize legacy payment platforms.
- Define secure and scalable API standards for RESTful and event-based integrations.
- Mentor a cross-functional engineering team and establish code-review practices that improve quality and reliability.
- Integrate AI-powered development tools, AI/ML capabilities, anomaly detection, intelligent testing, and observability into payment workflows.
- Partner with product, business analysis, and operations teams to convert financial requirements into technical solutions.
