Role Overview
The role is an Embedded Software Engineer position on the Traffic Surveillance Systems team at Collins Aerospace.
The team develops, integrates, verifies, and certifies avionics surveillance products including ADS-B, TCAS, and transponders.
The role supports high-performance embedded solutions for next-generation aerospace platforms.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for Traffic Surveillance products.
- Develop engineering tools and automation frameworks for development and verification.
- Execute unit, integration, and system-level testing.
- Support DAL-B compliant airborne software development and verification.
- Participate in requirements, design, code inspection, and peer review activities.
- Collaborate across systems, software, hardware, verification, and certification teams.
- Support certification activities, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with DevOps teams.
- Troubleshoot build, integration, and deployment issues.
- Analyze defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, electronics engineering, aerospace engineering, or another STEM discipline.
- 4–9 years of embedded software development experience.
- Strong programming experience in C++ and Python.
- Experience with VxWorks or Wind River operating systems.
- Experience across requirements, design, coding, integration, testing, and verification.
- Experience with hardware-software integration and board-level debugging.
- Hands-on experience with Git, Visual Studio, and software development tools.
- Experience in Agile development environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearance, if applicable.
- Work authorization without current or future employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing airborne software under RTCA DO-178B/C guidelines.
- Knowledge of avionics architectures in CNS, FMS, flight controls, or display systems.
- Familiarity with Traffic Surveillance products such as ADS-B, TCAS, and transponders.
- Experience with avionics requirements analysis, traceability, and verification.
- Knowledge of ARINC 429, ARINC 653, AFDX, CAN, or TCP/IP protocols.

- Deliver high-quality software aligned with program schedules and certification requirements.
- Contribute to architecture discussions and technical design decisions.
- Support software verification and certification milestones.
- Improve quality, automation, tooling, and engineering efficiency.
- Within 12 months, contribute to releases, verification, audits, and program milestones.
Travel and Work Environment
- Up to 10% travel may be required for customer engagements, program reviews, testing, or certification activities.
- The role is primarily office-based and involves development systems, laboratory equipment, and software tools.
