Senior Java Software Engineer

Location and Work Arrangement

• Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the Chicago headquarters.
• The role is hybrid and requires at least one day per week in the office.
• Candidates must be eligible to work in Chicago, Illinois, without visa sponsorship.

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Java-based enterprise applications and integrations.
• Troubleshoot production applications and improve stability.
• Modernize legacy applications for performance, maintainability, and scalability.
• Translate business and technical requirements into software solutions.
• Troubleshoot issues across applications, APIs, integrations, databases, and data pipelines.
• Apply practices for code quality, testing, release management, documentation, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, analysts, architects, administrators, and developers.
• Provide technical guidance through reviews, design discussions, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Java/Jakarta EE, object-oriented design, application architecture, debugging, and maintainable coding.
• Proficiency with JavaScript and SQL, including relational databases.
• Understanding of APIs, integration patterns, data pipelines, application security, authentication, and authorization.
• Experience with source control, testing, deployment practices, and CI/CD tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience in Agile delivery environments using Scrum or similar methodologies.
• At least 5 years of software development, application engineering, or systems integration experience focused on Java.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with Open Liberty or similar Java application server platforms.
• Experience integrating with Microsoft Dynamics 365, finance, CRM, or operations systems.
• Experience with .NET or willingness to contribute to .NET applications.
• Ability to use AI-assisted development tools while maintaining engineering, quality, and security standards.
• A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Compensation

• Pay range is $130,000-$140,000.
• Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the recruiting process and based on experience, qualifications, and location.
