Job Description
Senior Java Developer responsible for designing, building, and operating the Java backend that powers the Data Hub application. The role centres on high-throughput REST/streaming API development and real-time data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data at scale. The developer will own services end to end – design, coding, testing, deployment, and production support – and collaborate with data engineering, platform, and product teams to deliver reliable, performant, and well-documented backend capabilities.
Key Duties and Tasks
- Design and develop RESTful and event-driven APIs for the Data Hub using Java (17+) and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain real-time data streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka (producers/consumers, Kafka Streams).
- Model, optimize, and integrate with relational and NoSQL data stores; write efficient queries and manage schemas.
- Implement robust API contracts (OpenAPI/Swagger), versioning, authentication/authorization, rate limiting, and error handling.
- Ensure services are observable and production-ready – logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and CI/CD automation.
- Write unit, integration, and performance tests; participate in code reviews and uphold engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot and tune performance, latency, and throughput of streaming and API workloads.
