Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Role overview

Core responsibilities

• Understand dependencies between systems and workstreams and deliver work according to agreed standards, controls and security expectations.
• Provide technical leadership, stakeholder communication, operational support, documentation and security-focused best practice.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support timely incident and problem resolution.
• Coach, guide and support less experienced engineers.

Competence and knowledge

• Strong experience in an Infrastructure Engineer or similar technical role, preferably in financial services, a regulated environment or business-critical technology.
• Experience designing, delivering and supporting production infrastructure services.
• Experience with change control, operational governance and service management processes.
• Strong understanding of security, resilience, monitoring, capacity and maintainability considerations.
• Experience working with suppliers and third-party support providers where required.

Technical environment

• VMware technologies include Dell VxRail, Aria Suite, NSX, HCX, vSAN, VCF and VMC.
• Load balancing technologies include VMware AVI, NSX or equivalent.
• Fortinet SD-WAN and firewall technologies include FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer and FortiClient VPN or equivalent.
• Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux configuration and management.
• Monitoring and observability tools include SolarWinds, Opsgenie, Grafana and Prometheus or equivalent.
• Storage, backup and disaster recovery technologies include SAN/NAS, replication, snapshotting and recovery testing concepts.
• Identity and access technologies include Active Directory, ADFS, SSO and MFA.
• Cisco networking technologies, Cisco ISE and Catalyst Centre or equivalent demonstrable networking experience.
• AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, container platforms and cloud-based infrastructure patterns are desirable.
• Infrastructure as Code, automation, scripting and CI/CD practices are desirable, with Terraform preferred.
• Security tooling and practices include patch management, vulnerability management, SIEM, EDR, PAM and micro-segmentation.
• ITIL service management and PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum or equivalent project delivery experience are beneficial.
