About the Role

HTS Assist is Hopper's agentic AI assistant for travel, handling flight changes, cancellations, refunds, and bookings through chat and voice.

Own the realtime and voice layer end to end while contributing across frontend, backend services, and cloud infrastructure.

The team is lean and senior, with broad ownership and a direct path from shipped code to customer phone interactions.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Own telephony and CPaaS integrations, streaming speech pipelines, realtime model orchestration, and latency and quality budgets.
  • Build React and TypeScript web chat features, Scala and Python backend services, and infrastructure on GCP.
  • Design multi-tenant systems that serve many partners through configuration rather than code forks.
  • Build guardrails, content filtering, and PII redaction integration points for enterprise safety and compliance.
  • Maintain revenue-critical deployments through observability, alerting, incident response, and SLA performance.
  • Build capabilities for partner telephony integrations and go-lives.
  • Contribute to code reviews, architecture reviews, and mentoring.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience with senior-level ownership of production systems and full-stack range.
  • Hands-on realtime systems experience, such as voice applications, WebRTC or SIP, streaming media, or comparable low-latency products.
  • Strength in React and TypeScript, with backend depth in Scala or another JVM language and/or Python.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience on GCP or AWS.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems.
  • Familiarity using AI coding tools and owning the quality of shipped work.
  • Experience with SLAs, observability, on-call rotations, and rollback plans.
  • Strong communication, pragmatic problem-solving, and iterative delivery skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Conversational AI, LLM orchestration, or speech technologies such as Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Whisper, or OpenAI Realtime.
  • Cloud telephony or CPaaS platforms such as Twilio, Amazon Connect, Genesys, or LiveKit.
  • Customer service, CRM, contact center, or workflow automation tools.
  • Travel industry technologies such as PSS/GDS, hotel PMS, or CRS.

Compensation

  • The posting states a compensation range of CAD 200,000 to CAD 250,000, but does not specify a pay cadence.

Perks and Benefits

  • Hopper covers 100% of group insurance premiums and provides disability coverage.
  • Employees have access to an HSA, telemedicine services, an RRSP plan, parental leave, and unlimited PTO.
  • Additional benefits include a travel stipend, coworking access, and a work-from-home stipend.
