Senior Engineer - Structures

Core Functions: Design and Delivery

• Prepare feasibility study reports and review them with the Associate or Principal Engineer of Structures.
• Assemble design specifications compliant with employer requirements and monitor delivery.
• Agree and monitor the scope of works.
• Define building requirements and purpose of use to support detailed design.
• Carry out detailed design to WSP and applicable building regulations, including complex calculations and coordination issues.
• Review and monitor calculations, QA, technical reviews, and sign-off.

Project Coordination

• Complete project costing information and tender documentation to the required detail and deadlines.
• Respond to queries from the WSP UK Team and provide information needed for construction activities.
• Report variances between constructed works and design intent.
• Lead the design process and encourage cost-effective solutions within the agreed programme.
• Follow document control, archiving, CDM, and QA processes, including appropriate issue and filing of project information.
• Coach junior staff in document control and project processes.

Technical and Team Contribution

• Raise technical competence within teams and promote technical excellence.
• Develop positive professional relationships with the WSP UK Team and communicate project progress.
• Participate in team meetings and communicate information across teams.
• Identify, act on, or refer potential risk issues.
• Follow company commercial and contracting processes.
• Identify and flag additional fees to the Associate or Principal Engineer of Structures.

Experience and Qualifications

• Proven experience in building structures design with significant experience in a similar role or a demonstrated strong track record.
• British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent is ideally preferred.
• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is ideally preferred.
• Membership in an accredited engineering body is ideally preferred.
• Good management, communication, technical, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work both within a team and independently.

Technical Skills

• Full proficiency with structural software such as RAM, CSC, and ETABS.
• Sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
• Fluency in English with excellent understanding of technical terminology.
