  • Reporting to the Manager, Standards & Modelling, you will coordinate and guide cross functional teams to develop ARS for Alberta’s electricity industry.
  • To succeed, you will require knowledge of high voltage facilities, transmission system operations, and protection & control systems to lead and participate in stakeholder engagements with external industry working groups.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and sustainment of Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS), including those within the AESO’s innovative Reliability Standard Sync Up Project, ensuring seamless integration across Alberta’s electricity system.
  • Establish and facilitate technical working groups that bring together internal experts and external stakeholders to solve complex challenges.
  • Draft ARS, supporting documentation, and stakeholder engagement materials that clarify and inspire.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement processes that foster collaboration and transparency.
  • Manage ARS development timelines and deliverables with precision and accountability.
  • Represent AESO in North American electricity industry standards discussions, influencing and shaping the future of reliability.
  • Stay ahead of NERC and WECC developments, providing timely updates and insights to internal teams.
  • Support implementation and compliance monitoring phases of ARS projects, including responding to stakeholder inquiries and drafting information documents.
  • Conduct internal research and analysis on proposed new ARS to drive informed decision making.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and work review to junior professionals, building the next generation of reliability experts.
  • Lead large scale projects or processes related to ARS with autonomy and confidence, delivering results that set new benchmarks.

What you’ll bring to us

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accreditation with APEGA.
  • At least 10 years of experience as an electrical industry professional working with transmission system asset management, facilities design, real time operations, or regulatory compliance monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships, facilitate groups, and lead stakeholder engagement. Must be able to guide large, complex engagements and drive decision making in environments ranging from collaborative to oppositional.
  • Applied experience with project and program management tools, including understanding cost impacts and regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of electricity industry rules and standards, compliance monitoring, and audit processes.
