Role Overview
Support the development and maintenance of low-voltage switchgear focused on motor protection circuit breakers, switch disconnectors, contactors, and accessories.
Collaborate across teams to achieve project objectives and learn product development techniques, tools, and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop AC- and DC-rated breakers, switch disconnectors, contactors, motor relays, auxiliary contacts, and related accessories.
- Complete sizing, design, simulation, testing, and validation through industrialization.
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and assembly principles across molding, sheet metal, casting, machining, and tooling processes.
- Analyze arc chambers, current paths, and contacts for robust product development.
- Own technical delivery for subsystems or modules and ensure compliance with IEC 60947, UL 489, and other standards.
- Modify existing products for customer, manufacturing, regulatory, and market requirements through change management.
Technical Requirements
- Experience with research, NPI, or sustaining projects for breakers, switch disconnectors, contactors, auxiliary contacts, accessories, or similar products.
- Expertise in plastic and sheet metal part design, mechanism design, and system integration.
- Knowledge of plastic materials, GD&T, and clearance and creepage calculations.
- Experience with contact and plastic manufacturing processes such as bending, riveting, welding, brazing, and injection molding.
- Knowledge of IEC, UL, CSA, or CCC low-voltage switchgear standards and related test plans.
- Experience executing temperature-rise, short-circuit, make/break, and sequence tests.
- Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, reliability prediction, DFMEA, and engineering analysis results.
- Detailed design experience with 2D drawings and 3D models in UG-NX, SolidWorks, or Creo.
- Knowledge of PLM systems such as Enovia or SAP is desirable.
- An innovative mindset and a proven record of innovation and product launches.
Qualifications
- BE or M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7–10 years of product design experience.
- Experience with product design, sustenance, cost reduction, and agile methodologies.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for global and virtual collaboration.
