Role overview

Responsibilities

• Assist with design, planning, and implementation of the API gateway platform and supporting infrastructure.
• Optimize gateway components for availability, performance, and scalability.
• Support 24/7 production operations and maintain platform uptime and reliability.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure-level and platform-level issues and implement durable solutions.
• Administer Apigee Hybrid components across Linux environments.
• Manage configurations, runtime versions, patches, certificates, and upgrade paths.
• Collaborate with architecture, security, SRE, development, and integration teams.
• Mentor team members and participate in a weekly on-call rotation.

Knowledge and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in CIS or Computer Science, or equivalent Systems Engineering or IT experience.
• At least 3 years supporting enterprise-grade applications or platforms in production.
• Strong operational understanding of API management platforms, preferably Apigee Hybrid.
• Knowledge of Linux operating systems and distributed systems, containers, or Kubernetes.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, TLS, DNS, load balancing, and routing.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD, observability stacks, root cause analysis, and Bash or Python scripting.
• Strong analytical, diagnostic, problem-solving, communication, and customer-focused skills.

Desired qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Apigee Hybrid runtime components and Cassandra-based data stores.
• Experience operating API gateways in hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
• Understanding of OAuth, mTLS, JWT, and key or token management.
• Experience with API gateway upgrades, versioning, and patch management.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes objects and workloads on GKE, EKS, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with Istio, Envoy, and API traffic patterns.

Operational schedule

• Production support operates in a 24/7 environment.
• The role participates in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours events and planned changes.
