The Role and Impact
Xero is seeking a Senior Engineer - AI Builder to design and rapidly ship internal tools and automations that reduce toil across Product and Technology.
The role applies modern AI and engineering techniques to build scalable software, connect data systems, and improve operational workflows.
The engineer will mentor business-operations community members and build confidence in modern AI tooling.
Initially, the Role Will Focus On
- Designing and delivering internal tools for status reporting, headcount management, and automated roadmapping.
- Applying AI-first engineering, large language models, and coding agents to automate complex manual workflows.
- Integrating Jira, Confluence, Workday, and data warehouses through APIs.
- Prototyping AI-enabled solutions that eliminate operating friction and scale smoothly.
What We Are Looking For
- A software-engineering background with proficiency in Python or TypeScript and experience creating full-stack tools.
- Hands-on experience applying AI tools, coding agents, and low-code frameworks to production-ready software.
- Ability to choose appropriately between custom software, low-code workflows, and extensions to existing SaaS platforms.
