Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for the Hydropower, Dams, and Hydraulic Structures team.

The role supports the design and delivery of complex hydropower, dam, and hydraulic structure projects across North America.

Projects include traditional and pumped-storage hydropower facilities in an integrated design-construction environment.

Technical and Project Leadership

  • Serve as a senior electrical technical resource on hydropower and dam projects.
  • Lead and support electrical system design for generation, distribution, protection, and grounding.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design packages and support procurement packages and system studies.

Collaboration and Mentorship

  • Collaborate with internal engineers, construction personnel, external design partners, clients, regulators, subconsultants, and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote a collaborative environment focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Practice Development and Quality

  • Support pursuits, technical proposals, business development, and client engagement.
  • Contribute to HDH practice growth, lessons learned, design efficiency, and new tools or workflows.
  • Promote safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement in design delivery.
  • Support implementation and improvement of the design quality management system.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated engineering and design experience on hydropower and dam projects.
  • Professional Engineer license in Canada.
  • Experience with ETAP or similar tools and proficiency in plant-level electrical systems studies.
  • Proficiency designing protection and control systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards, especially ANSI/IEEE and NEC.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to project offices and job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with refurbishments on operating facilities.
  • Experience as a design manager, deputy design manager, project engineer, or design coordinator on multidisciplinary projects.
  • More than 15 years of electrical engineering design experience and on-site construction experience are preferred.
  • Familiarity with design-build delivery models is preferred.
  • Fluent English is preferred, and French is an asset.

Location and Work Arrangement

  • The position is based out of Oakville, Ontario, or Burnaby, British Columbia.
  • Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be considered.
  • Occasional travel to project offices and job sites is required.

Compensation

  • Base compensation is listed as 120-150 K CAD per year, subject to education, experience, skillset, and location.
