The DBA and SRE team operates the database platform supporting critical services.

The team is focused on operational excellence, scale, automation, self-service, performance, security, and reliability.

The Opportunity

This is a platform-oriented database administration role focused on distributed MariaDB environments and high-traffic systems.

The role converts operational knowledge into automated, auditable workflows for the engineering organization.

The position involves collaboration, high ownership, rigor, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Scale and tune high-throughput MariaDB clusters.
  • Improve high availability, disaster recovery, and backup procedures.
  • Build automation and enable safe database workflows.
  • Improve monitoring, alerting quality, and operational metrics.
  • Strengthen database security, patching, upgrades, and access controls.
  • Support containers, infrastructure-as-code, and reproducible deployments.
  • Partner with service teams on performance, readiness, and database hygiene.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and preventative engineering.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years operating MariaDB or MySQL in high-volume production environments, including tuning, replication, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of high-availability patterns, distributed database behavior, and failure scenarios.
  • Hands-on experience with HAProxy, ProxySQL, MaxScale, or similar database proxy or load-balancing technology.
  • Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code workflows; Terraform is ideal.
  • Cloud, Linux, and networking fundamentals.
  • Experience building container images and managing Kubernetes workloads at scale.
  • Security knowledge covering access control, upgrades, and safe operational workflows.
  • Observability experience in monitoring, alerting hygiene, and incident response.
  • Communication, collaboration, documentation, planning, and metric-based delivery skills.

Preferred Skills

  • SRE methodologies such as error budgets, operational reviews, or reliability programs.
  • Python or Rust programming for automation and internal tools.
  • GitOps tools such as ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Multi-region or disaster-recovery design experience.
  • Interest in cryptocurrency or decentralized systems.
